Things I’ve learned as a Plant Mom
A month from today, I’ll be celebrating my first year as a “Plant Mom”. Yay! Among the hobbies I’ve tried, being a Plant Mom is the most rewarding. Presently, I’m a proud momma of 13 houseplants and 10 outdoor plants. My plant babies are such a welcome reminder that there is growth even when everything seems so uncertain.
“Simply put, plants are great quarantine buddies! You can put love, care, and attention into these little green creatures and watch them flourish and grow,” says Christopher Griffin a.k.a. @plantkween
Where to Begin
Start small, don’t go fanatical, and buy 10 plants at once. Those photos you’ve been pinning on your Pinterest board started with 1 or 2 plants as well. Kick off with what you can manage. Some beginner low-maintenance houseplants that are good to start with are peace lily, pothos, snake plant, and ZZ plant.
Research, Assess and Observe
Not all plants have equal needs. Before buying plants assess where the light hits your home. Some houseplants are more sensitive to direct light and may begin to wilt when exposed to direct light. Distance from your window also plays a role, it affects the light intensity and quality, which differs depending on the seasons.
